Martin&Co O-28 Year 1901
This fine turn of the century Martin is a wonderful example of one of the finest guitars ever made. Revolutionary X pattern brace, and unparalleled craftsmanship result in a guitar that has both exquisite beauty and a fantastic voice. The instrument is well preserved, with its original finish.
An intricately carved headstock has a perfectly executed Japanese style joinery connection to the Spanish cedar neck. This feature was standard on Martin instruments of the mid to late 19th Century, but was dropped in the 1920's. The surviving feature of a raised diamond beneath the connection can be seen as an ornamentation on modern style 28 and higher guitars.
The instrument is decorated in an early fine herringbone perfling, and features an Adirondack spruce top, and old growth Brazilian rosewood back and sides.
Original ebony fret board has bar stock frets that are original to the guitar.
